greetings from u.s.a.
I arrived in America safely, and am having a lovely time.
As I said in my last post, I am only visiting Atlanta and New York. I'm in Atlanta today and tomorrow, and New York Monday, Tuesday and until Wednesday noon. As always, if you wish to meet up, please feel free to get in touch,
I look forward to seeing Everybody again. Thank you.

american trip postponed
[My niece, Frances, who's accompanying me on this trip.]
[UPDATE:} As many of you will know, I am currently in San Francisco, on my regular American visit.
When I arrived in San Francisco I learned that my dear mother passed away while I was on the plane from Chicago.
Her funeral is on Thursday, which I'm flying back for. I'm afraid I'm going to have to cut this American visit short. I shall still see my customers in San Francisco, but to my friends in Atlanta and New York who had appointments, I plan to be back in the next couple of weeks to make up for it.
Thank you in advance for your understanding. My mother was dearly loved by me and all her very large family, and this is very sad news for all of us.

off to america...

(Ms. Alice Early)
Well we're on way our back to the USA. We've been very busy these last few weeks cutting and making for the trip. There never seems to be enough hours in the day, but we always seem to get things done on time.
As long as US Customs let me in, then everyone will have their fittings. My usual helper, Lucy graduates this month from University, so she's got her head down for the final run. I'm sure she's going to do really well. I'm delighted that Alice Early will be helping me on this trip instead. It's her first trip to the US and I know she'll have a wonderful time.
Alice was educated at Cheltenham College and is now studying fashion and textiles at The University of Gloucestershire. She's wonderful company and I know all our clients will be delighted with her input and help.
I look forward to meeting our friends again, both old and new.

off to america...
[My dear old MG, enjoying the early summer blooms at Warwick Hall.]
I'm down on Savile Row today, then Lucy and I are flying out to Chicago tomorrow. Then San Francisco, Atlanta and New York after that. Back home in just over two weeks.
I'm sorry that I've not been writing much lately, but I've been working very long hours during the last few weeks, getting all ready for this American trip.
Hopefully as summer comes along and things quieten down, I'll have more opportunities to write about tailoring. In the meantime, wish me Godspeed abroad, and I hope to see you when I get back. Thank you.
[P.S.] When I'm in the U.S., it's always far easier to reach me via telephone:
+44 (0) 7811 388 536
Or, even better, phone me at my hotel. Thanks Again.

[Quick Update:] I was recently interviewed by BBC Radio 4's "In Business", where they talk about the internet and "Web 2.0", as the cognoscenti like too call it. You can listen to it here on their webpage for the next week or so, or you can simply download the podcast here. I appear quite late in the show, about 22 minutes into it.

us trip
[UPDATE: My appointment diary for the next American visit, June 16-27, 2006, is filling up fast.]
Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, and New York.
I have a small number of slots left, so please e-mail me as soon as possible if you wish to make an appointment. Thank you.
I shall have my San Francisco hotel confirmed within the next few days. Once it's confirmed, I'll post it both here on English Cut and in the newsletter.
Lastly, don't forget Lucy and I will be selling shirts this time round and no, you don't have to be an exisiting suit customer to be measured for one.
I'm very much looking forward to this trip. I really do like catching up with my American friends.

[Please subscribe to newletter here.]
I've been very fortunate to have received a lot of e-mails recently, asking when I am next planning to visit America.
With these good people in mind, could I please be so bold as to request to all my customers, and all regular English Cut readers, to please subscribe to my newsletter?
The newsletter is only sent out once every few months. With it, the moment I know my dates and/or any other breaking news, then so will you. It's by far the easiest way for me to keep everyone abreast of my movements.
I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

johnny & ravi in new york
I am writing this from New York, having just arrived earlier this afternoon from Atlanta.
Besides myself, I am pleased to say that two other Savile Row tailors are in Manhattan at the moment, both good friends of mine. Perhaps if you're looking for something different from what I offer, you might consider giving them a call.
The young Jonathan Quearney, and Ravi Tailor from Anthony Hewitt's.
Jonathan makes a very smart made-to-measure two piece starting at around £700.
Ravi's work is utterly top-drawer; a slighty firmer bespoke than myself. I gave him a mention earlier here.
You can find them both at the Hotel Benjamin, the same place I'm staying at. If you see them, tell them 'Hello' from me!

off to america...
[My niece, Laura Oddy. Photographed outside my Cumbrian offices at Warwick Hall.]
I'm just getting ready to fly off to America for my usual bespoke visit. Driving down to London today, appointments on Savile Row tomorrow, then arrive in Chicago on Friday. Then San Francisco, Atlanta and New York, all in just under two weeks.
My usual assistant, Lucy Adams is not coming with me this time, but in her place I've decided to treat my niece, Laura Oddy to her first trip to America. Recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, studying mechanical engineering, she will helping me with my appointments. She looks forward to meeting you.
Lucy tells me she'll be back with me on my next US trip, around June.
My schedule in America is very tight, and my appointment diary is very full. If you wish to make a last-minute appointment, I hopefully should be able to make room for you, but until I return to England it's probably easier just to telephone me on my mobile, rather than arrange it via e-mail.
Mobile: +44 (0) 7811 388 536My Savile Row appointments after America are on March 16th and 30th. Both are on a Thursday. If you wish to make an appointment for those, I would prefer if you sent me an e-mail.
All very exciting. Hopefully see you in America!

warwick hall
[The view from my office at Warwick Hall.]
People often wonder why I prefer to spend time cutting in Cumbria, instead of on Savile Row.
I think the above picture, which I took from my office window two days ago, really says it all.
If you're looking for a magical weekend, far from the madding crowd, perhaps you should consider getting your suit fitted at Warwick Hall instead of London. I'll be happy to look after you, and it should be a weekend you won't forget in a hurry.
I hope you'll think about it. Thank you.

atlanta & australia
[Lucy out and about in Manhattan.]
I'm sorry I've not been writing much lately, but I've been utterly swamped with work since my visit to America. Hopefully I'll find some time by next week.
[In other news:] After consulting with my readers and my customers, I have tentativley decided to add Atlanta to my regular visiting schedule, starting this January/February 2006. I'll make it "official" closer to the date, but in the meantime, if you are in the Atlanta market for bespoke, please drop me a line.
I have also tentatively planned to start regular visits to Sydney, starting in June 2006. Again, if this interests you, please do let me know.
OK, back to work...
